car does not start
I can not start my car! Here is what I did:
I did not touch the block or heads. I replaced the intake, carb dist, plugs and wires. I put the #1 cylinder at tdc on compression stroke and put in dist withe rotor pointing to #1 cylinder. hooked everything back up.
I have fuel going in to the carb and I have spark at the spark plug.
What am I missing? The car will not start. I will crank the engine and the give it some gas. When I give it the gas I get a pop out of the carb.
any help will be greatly appreciated

Re: car does not start

Ultimately, you're going to need a timing light.
Mean-time you can confirm the timing possibility by moving
the dist. in SMALL increments, engine off, then re-test.
Make a fine (i.e. narrow) mark on the dist. base and manifold.
SMALL will be about 1/16'' movement of dist. mark away
from manifold mark, which will correspond to approx. 4 deg.
ign. timing. If results are worse in one direction, try the
other. Performance improvements will confirm ign. setting
as the problem. Then get final setting w/ timing light.

Re: car does not start
hey i just got a 1986 camaro with a 92 v8 5.7 liter engine in it . the car was running really crappy so i had to change firing order on the car it was running alot better.. but still wasnt right about a week later i discovred the smog silinoid was disconnected from the terminal where it goes into the top of the engine also the electric was not pluged into the conponent. i did some research and found out the correct way to hook it up .. i started and drove the car about 5 blocks car seamed to be running better then ever smooth and more power . after i turned the car off and tryed to start it up the next day .. car does not start .. as u hold the exnition and pump the gas the engine gets slowly to full running speed as if its running and when i let go of the exnition it turnes off as quick as i let go ?? i also tryed removing the smog silinoid back to how i org found it still same story any suggestions ?? thanks

Re: car does not start
finally got the car started! It was all my fault. When i was cranking the engine by hand to see when the intake valve opened and closed I was actually looking at the exhaust valve. So my dist was 180 degrees off. I reinstalled it and the car started right up! thanks to all for the help
