your thoughts on this oil...
Hey guys, I just replaced the oil in my 91 T/A yesterday and poured in Castrol GTX High Mileage (for 75k+) 5W-30 into my 305 TPI, along with a new Bosch filter. Any thoughts? Good or bad choice?

Fram filter (the orange one) is dangerous. Its paper can be torn easily and is not reinforced at the cap. The Fram ToughGaurd, however, is a decent one.
Castrol Syntec is a ripoff, they charge a full synthetic price for a less than synthetic oil.
Napa Gold, Purolater Pure One, and Royal purple are the only filters I like to use.
Mobil One, Royal Purple are the only Synthetic oils I like.
Several opinions can be had on this board and I am sure you will hear varying opinions. Try to educate yourself and do your own research. Pick what you find to be the best you can find vs what you want to spend.

Before you go too crazy with high end products, ask yourself when the last time was that you saw a lubrication related failure. Today's oils (name brand SM dino oils) are far above what was around even 10 years ago. When used with a good filter and changed at a reasonable interval, you can't really go wrong.

If "good enough" works for you, then use it.
My car gets very good stuff because i want the most out of my car.

use any name brand oil. use a good oil filter to me is more important thaan the best oil. use the right weight. stay away from fram. look on the back label of oil and it will telll you (usually) if it is refined oil. for the matter you can use delo in a car if you want. change at regular intervals and use a good filter. you will be good.

Castrol syntec is a group III oil just like valvoline synpower, pennzoil platinum, q Horsepower, does that mean these oils are a rip off too?
Mobil one is 75% or higher group III does that mean mobil one is a 75% rip off?
I don't use castrol syntec but i would.

Re: your thoughts on this oil...
Thanks for the tips guys... the reason I bought this oil/filter combo was because Autozone is having a sale on it ($18 for a 5 1/4 quart jug of Castrol GTX high mileage oil plus a bosch filter) and my trans am really needed an oil change.

If you price your class 3 synthetic oil at the same price as other guys class 4 and 5 true synthetic oils then yes, it does. kthxbai
