Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

I'm getting a 3 gauge auto meter pillar pod for my t-top iroc. I think i'll go with the auto meter ultra lite mechanical FP gauge for $50. What else do i need to connect that to my fuel rail? I assume a line of some sort that screws onto the gauge and onto the fitting on the fuel rail?

In short, what else do i need to read fuel pressure with the gauge i want? Thanks a bunch!

also, any idea's on what i should fill the other two holes with? i was thinking an accurate water temp and a shift light.

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

The easiest way to know what your fuel pressure is, is to do an in line fuel pressure guage and leaving it under the hood. Now if you are looking at running a guage to your pillar pod then you are looking at a more expesive route. reason being is that when you put a fuel pressure guage in, you are running fuel from the fuel line and into the guage, simple. Now if you think about this, that would mean you are running fuel, into a flimsy line through your firewall and into the cab of the vehical. Now the expesive part is running the fuel into an isolator before the firewall, running anouther line from the isolator with an inert fluid into the guage. Isolators are not cheap and the whole prossese seems to be a big headach, honestly, unless you are going to mess with wireing and all that jazz, I would just do an inline guage under the hood and save that pod spot for something else cool like a boost guage. I hope I made scence. I only know this because I ALMOST did something similar with my fuel pressure guage and my oil pressure guage when my oil pressure sending unit went out. I thought it would be cheaper to just go with a mechanical guage then I was made to realize the who, flamable hot liquids thing prior too doing this.

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

NEVER run liquid of ANY type, especially FUEL into the space where you the human sit! There are barriers of metal between you and every mechanical part in your car for a reason, safety!!!

If you want a fuel pressure gauge inside the cabin, suck it up and buy an electric gauge and run simple wires to your gauge, not fuel lines. Mechanical gauges are cheap, but dangerous and archaic! If you ask me, you should never run a mechanical gauge unless there is NO other resort, usually every gauge you could think of comes in an electric version that includes a sensor, you hook up the sensor to something outside the cabin and run wires from that sensor to your gauge, simple, easy, accurate, and much safer.

My three gauges I would get if you only have stock gauges right now, are fuel pressure, oil temperature, and vacuum/boost gauges. Now, out of those three the only gauge that is safe to buy in mechanical version is the boost/vacuum because it only contains simple air, or lack thereof. I'll repeat myself, try to never run fuel or liquids inside the cabin!

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

Thanks for the great info and heads up guys!! I think ill contact southbay and see what they can hook me up with for a gauge under the hood.

Or how much is a electric FP gauge? summit shows around 200 for a gauge ( i think it would be the whole kit?) I might bite the bullet and get it if it's 200 for everything i need.

What would the vacuum gauge show me? Also, the oile temp is a no for now cause you have to drill and tap into your pan correct?

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

200 sounds right on the money for a good accurate gauge with included sensor/wires. As for the vacuum gauge, it's mostly for looks or general knowledge, not much use for it unless you're forced induction. Just another cheap gauge to have for looks. Oil temp gauge can be installed like this guy did: http://www.my5oh.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=36&p=37490

Gauges are personal preference, get whatever you like unless you are trying to accomplish a purpose, such as diagnosing or proactive prevention of issues.

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

Did some searching. EDIT water temp, FP, and oil temp? oh desicions lol.

Water temp 100-250* elect. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4337/

Vacuum 30 in. mechan. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4384/

Now IDK which one.
1. Southbays underhood gauge = under $75

2. Auto Meters electric = $207

If i get the underhood FP, i'd get a oil temp or A/F narrow band
Oil Temp 100-250* Elect. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4347/

Narrow AF http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATM-4975/

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

So you like the procomp gauges eh? Nice choice. As for the air to fuel ratio gauge, you need a wideband, a narrow band will not help you much at all, if it's only for looks then definitely get the narrow band.

I really hope others chime in here, you shouldn't make your choices based off only 1 guys advice lol

Re: Fuel Pressure Gauge Kit???

Would the narrow band at least tell me if i'm running way rich or lean? I'm not tuning with it, but a gauge for the sole purpose of "looks" is 100% pointless. I assume it will tell me something...

Water Temp
Narrow Band
????? jesus i cant decide lol
Fuel Pressure under the hood

That explains it pretty well, the narrow vs wideband
