Engine Smoking after cam change????

So my motor is now noticeably smoking. Never used to do it. I swapped cams, drove it a day, then my pinion bearing went out. I remember alittle bit of smoke when I first fired it up, but I think I put it off as just being caused by where it set for awhile.

So last weekend I swap in a 4th gen rear. I take off down the road and I can tell some smoke. Okay, I figure that it is where it set for about a month without running. My cousin watched me as I pulled out of his driveway. Definately smoking. It is not pouring out, but is noticeable.

I havent run the car hard, so I dont think I have hurt anything. The motor only has 60k on it. It never smoked like this before when I drove it, so Im thinking that it was something I done. I did change umbrella seals on the heads, but wouldnt that just affect the car after start-up?

could I have messed up one of the intake gaskets?

Help please.

I'm assuming you're getting bluish smoke out your exhaust. The umbrella seals keep oil out of the combustion chamber when the valve opens. Have you done a compression test? If your rings are fine then I'd take a look at those umbrella seals.

Re: Engine Smoking after cam change????

yes, blue smoke from the tailpipes. I havent done a check yet, but I am going to this weekend.

The seals were tight going on, but I installed them correctly (or atleast I think so). Do you think a couple of them got cut or something?

On vortec heads, are the umbrella seals the only seal on the valve?

Why do you not think it is intake gasket?

did you put umbrella seals on all the valve stems? I believe you need the blue positive pressure seals on the intake valves. the only thing is that u will burn a little extra oil. Also when u put them on did u cover the keeper grooves with masking tape to protect the inner edge of the seal from getting cut.

Re: Engine Smoking after cam change????

No I didnt, I oiled them to give them some slip so they wouldnt get caught on the lip as easily.

This weekend, I drove the car alittle bit and at idle, you could barely see anything. I never did get on it hard while looking at the tailpipes. I dont think it is anything major.

Right now I have bigger problems though. With the new power, my 700r4 just bit the dust.
