sorry if this has been posted but i can find the problem, so if there is a thread already, please let me know.

Does anyone else have the problem when they are braking from a decent speed and your fuel gauge starts to plummit to Empty on the gauge scale, and then rises back up to its original (or close enough) position.

If so, how would i fix this (if its possible) i dont want to have that doing that, i plan on putting in a digital gauge (much later on) in the future and it would be a pain if that problem occured with a digital gauge.

 

Not sure if anyone else has that problem, but unless your gauge isn't functioning properly, everyone will have that happen.

The fuel sloshes to the front of the tank when under hard braking, lowering the level of fuel the sending unit sees. It's just a simple float, after all.

 

I don't know if it has anything to do with mine being older, a 1982, but my guage gives instant readings meaning that it bounces all over the place if the fuel is sloshing around.

 

Some vehicles like trucks with a long fuel tank and the long being from front to rear have a "sloshing damper" which is a baffle inside the tank.

There are also electronic circuits which can solve this problem as well.

yea ive been having this problem as well, if i brake hard or take a long hard left curve it will go down. its really bad cuz if i have any less that a quarter tank the car will die out if i brake hard when the needle hits EMPTY.
