engine building question

I want to get a 350 built for my gta. I'm on a budget and wondered what would be more cost effective buying a new block and parts or buy a used engine? Its going to be a 4 bolt main block with vortec heads.

Re: engine building question

if you're keeping it TPI you don't need 4 bolt mains. Being a GTA, it already has a 350 you can rebuild. Going with all new parts is unnecessarily expensive.

I originally had a 305 in it but it blew so I'm starting from scratch. I dunno if I should buy a new block or a whole used engine.

Re: engine building question

You should be able to find an '87-up 350 without heads for $100-150, or a '96-up Vortec 350 for around $450-500, and start disassembling it.
