Car dies on acceleration
Car dies on acceleration
I have an '87 Z28 auto w/305 Carb engine. From a dead stop when you hit the gas it the rpms drop and it dies. It does this when cold and when warm. If I can get it cruising and punch it it accelerates just fine other than being hella slow. Any ideas on what can be causing my rpm drop and dying? I ran some carb cleaner thru it but didn't have any effect.

2 things check your timing and look for vacuum leaks. Also try pulling a few spark plugs i suspect they may be on the white side.
Re: Car dies on acceleration
anyone think if could be related to the fact the my alternator is shot? had a good charge the other day and ran great, i guess as the battery started wearing down the problem became more noticeable til today i tried to start it after 2 days of sitting and the battery is toast. So could this acceleration issue be directly related to my charging system dying?

Sounds like you found the problem. Replace the alternator and drive it. Just don't drive too fast or anything lol Replace the battery also..
