Mass air flow Sensor Rich/ lean readings ??

i have a 1985 trans am 305 tpi with some tpis industries mods. i bought a modified MAF sensor from them a couple years ago along with a few other mod parts, the problem i am having is i am getting a very rich setting from the MAF . i hooked a snap on scan tool to the car and all the other settings that seem to pertain to it seem in check , the throttle position is good , O2 sensor readings are good , coolent sensor is good but i have an engine light and the car runs like crap very rich, but its spuratic i unplug the MAF and in limp mode the car seemd to run ok , i drove it to the garage to have it checked with the scan tool , plugged in the MAf there and the car ran great while the scan tool was plugged in ,,,, all the readings were good , i unplugged the tool , drove out of the parking lot and within a mile the engine light was back on and the car ran like crap again. now it seems it doesnt even want to run good in limp mode if i unplug it . could it be just a bad MAF ? is there any way to check it ? i cleaned the plug in very well with some contact cleaner. all the wiring and the plug looks good to it .... any advice would be great , HELP

Re: Mass air flow Sensor Rich/ lean readings ??

ok ,,, now what ,,, as i said before i had some problems with this MAF for a while now , about a week ago when i took the car to a freind he hooked it to a snap on scan tool , i drove the car there with the MAF unplugged the car ran like a dream in limp mode , , i got there we ran the scan tool , to check for some o2 readings for i put on a brand new one, once we saw those readings were fine i then unhooked the battery cleared the codes from the computer , plugged in the MAF and while hooked to the scan tool the car ran like a dream the best it ever had , we unhooked the scan tool i left by the time we got 2 miles up the road, bam ,, back to the same old thing , running very rich , rough idle now the car wont even idle at all when i start it with the MAF plugged in or unplugged, what gives ? any help would be great from anyone.... please i want my car to run like it did years ago ,,, HELP
