i have a 92 camaro rs tbi..

i replaced the battery thinking that was the problem.. when i took it up to advance auto the guy did a test before we pulled it and it had 60? cold cranking amps... so i replaced that and i still have the problem... i have chip reader as my "security system" some people told me that could be the problem and i can take it to a lock smith and they can do something in the ignition. my thoughts its either that or my ignition it self is going out... when it doesnt start it just clicks, it dont try and turn over at all but i can wait a couple minutes and it will start right up but sometimes id have to wait hours.. when this happens i can use jumper cables and it fires right up...

any help with this would be much appreciated

Not always the case. I have had starters on their way out do the same thing. Mind of their own! Just one of many possibilities > pull the starter and have it tested.

If you drop the starter, you might want to consider just slapp'in a new one on if you intend to keep the car. Worth the investment. That's what I did anyways. I think I only paid 50 bucks for mine! Thanks for the comments on the Regal & Bird. Good luck!

 

When the car won't start, check and see if you still have power to your car. Like radio and headlights. My 91 camaro would sometimes wouldn't start. I would turn the key and nothing would happen. It was my VATS system. The chip in the key wouldn't read occasionally. I would have to wait at least 3 minutes and try again. If you try to start before 3 minutes have passed, it wouldn't start and the 3 minutes would start over. You can bypass it or go to the dealer and get a new key made.

 

If it was the VATS, it wouldn't even 'click'. I'm guessing solenoid as well.

 

im gunna try the new starter in the next few days
