What's timing set at? You are using a return-style regulator, right? Standard HEI distributor with vacuum advance? Sure you got firing order correct? Check all the plug wires for continuity? The EDL-1406 carb should have ran straight out of the box - any other info you can provide will help.

The timing is set at TDC and I am using a Mr.Gasket One Way Regulator In and Out. it is a HEI Distributor with accel Ignition control module and all wires are connected the car does start but doesn't stay running long and loses power as soon as shifted into Reverse or Drive it doesn't die but falls on its face and the carb has been rebuilt with orignal parts

Re: Carb tuning issues please help

Well, from what I can see at Summit Racing, Mr. Gasket doesn't make a return-style Regulator, so that's an issue. You HAVE to have a return-style regulator if you're using the in-tank fuel pump - most use the Mallory 4309 unit. I'm not sure it's causing this problem, but it will burn up your fuel pump.

What is the timing set at (in degrees)? Have you tried adjusting the timing either way, and compensating the idle at the carb?

Usually, the Edelbrock carb will run right out of the box, at almost any setting of the mixture screws - Mine is set at about 3-4 turns out, and my base timing is set at about 14* BTDC.

Re: Carb tuning issues please help

I have an external Fuel pump and the timing only seems to get worse either way I have figured i need a new carburetor because the air/Fuel Ratio Screws arent adjusting anything theres no change in idle or anything so im thinking the idiot that rebuilt the carb screwed it up, Any Suggestions on a new carb such as demon, holly,or edelbrock???
