engine running terrible
Ok, so here is the quick lowdown. I replaced the lifters and the rocker arms to 1.6 ratio on my 91 rs tbi equipped. All the mods are in my sig. After running the motor and making sure things sounded right I put the valve covers back on, adjusted timing and drove the car. After about 10 minutes of driving, the car started running terrible, as though it was missing or not running on all cylinders. Do not have time to take it apart until thursday, just wondering if anyone has any insight as to what might be causing this problem. The motor sounds rough once you give it gas, im hoping its nothing serious.

Re: engine running terrible
Did you adjust the lifters when the engine was up to operating temp? If not, some valves may not be closing fully. Or it could be something you hit while doing the job. Loose vacuum line maybe.

No I did not adjust the lifters/rocker arms after the motor got up to operating temp. I was not aware that i needed to do that, i thought once the rockers were adjusted that was it. I will pull the valve covers off and see what it looks like on thursday.

Re: engine running terrible
Ok so i took the valve covers off today and found the 2nd to last rocker on the drivers side was very loose, it was just flopping around. So i tightened the rocker up and checked all the other rockers, ran the motor for a little while to see if it would loosen up again and it seemed fine. I am still a little worried though that it might loosen up again, what would cause this problem and how can i prevent them from loosening up on me?

If it happens again you might want to replace the lock nuts or buy ones like these: http://www.jegs.com/p/Mr-Gasket/Mr-G...48880/10002/-1

Thanks, I will look into it. I just dont want to deal with this on a continuous basis
Re: engine running terrible
did you open up the push rod holes on the head? that can cause alot of friction and do serious damage to the valvetrain like droping or bending a valve . those holes always need to be enlarged to accomodate stepping up your rocker arm ratio or they will rub and cause real problems check that also

Not on self-aligning rocker heads. The pushrod holes are bigger.
You did use self aligning rocker arms, right?
