engine wont start
Hi. I have a 91 camaro 305 TPI engine manual transmission. FOr the past year its been acting up on me. It is an intermitten problem. When its cold or stopped for a long time it will start well and run super for a while. When it starts to get got or after driving it for a while during the day it will come to a point when it wont start. Need starter fluid to start and when that happens i get the SES light, it runs kind of rough, havent checked the code yet. Also if I keep running it it will come to a point when the engine will quit altogether. Is there an electronic sensor or something that gets affrected with heat that makes the motor shut down? or what could cause the engine not to start unless I use starter fluid? the revolutions are high around 2000 rpm after the starter fluid and wont come down even when the motor is hot.

Re: engine wont start
I'm not sure about the TPI's but I had a carb and distributor really throw me off like that. Inside my dist there is an ignition control module that would do fine when cold but the second it heated up, the thing just wouldn't help the dist spark like it should. Oddly I'd wait, spray starting fluid and it would run again, not sure if thats because the starting fluid ignites easier with lower spark.. but the problem slowly got worst and to the point of where starting fluid didnt even work. Finally I replaced that model and it ran fine, instantly! lol then my carb started leaking gas into the intake manifold while parked, it would flood itself after a drive but if I let it sit for hours the gas would evaporate then start up just fine. I wonder if thats ever a problem with tpi's. The smell of gas was a strong sign that it was flooding itself. Anyway, thought I'd share and just note that sometimes a problem isnt what it seems.
I'd suggest tracking down electronics that can overheat and die, anything that controls spark and or timing.
