Setting timing
Hey guys, i was jus wondering how do you set your base timing when you have an msd 6al box? i tried setting it but the box jus sets it rite back, it wont let me set it

The msd 6al box should have no affect on how you set you timing....it does not controll timing itself. Set timing the same way you would always set it normally. If it's moving back then something else is doing it....like you distributor is turning slowly while engine running....

are you unplugging the correct single wire timing connector before you try adjusting timing????

yea single wire unplugged and everything, i turn it almost a quater turn in either direction and it jus bounces back to w.e it was set at

okay, and when it's running and you unplug that (brown I think) connector , the check engine light comes on???
Maybe try a different timing gun, or you have something else wrong.
It's just a MSD 6al box, correct?? nothing else with it?? no timing adjusters?? (shouldn't naturally aspirated)
The MSD stands for Multiple Spark Discharge.....it just sparks the plug multiple times, but you shouldn't see that on the timing...the MSD should not have anything at all to do with timing....that is the distributor's job....is it a stock distributor?? I think you have something else goin on....

yea its jus a normal msd 6al box nothing else than tht, got a rebuilt oem dizzy in it and ive set it numours times before and went fine but wit the box it wants to bounce rite back to w.e i had it before...its weird

If this isn't the case and something else is wrong then you may want to pull your distributor and inspect it closely for problems.
