Looking to buy a 91 "Formula"

Hey guys,

I used to own an 87 Sport Couple(hence the username) and i am looking to get back into a 3rd gen as a project car/girlfriend's daily.

I found a 91 Firebird "Formula" on Craigslist for a good price. Being that it was a 91 and a Formula, i assumed that it would have a 350TPI motor in it and all the power goodies on the interior.

Heres what the car has

5.0L 305 w/ either TBI or a carb
700R4
manual windows, locks, mirrors
Solid roof
Aftermarket body kit (has gills on the back of the doors and on the rear bumper)

i was just wondering if this is actually a Formula or if someone just threw the Formula badge on the aftermarket rear bumper and called it that.

Like i said, i was under the assumption that a Formula came with a 350 TPI and all the power goodies.

Let me know guys, im trying to buy a car this weekend.

Formula's came with 350 TPI, 305 TPI, and a 305 TBI. It very well be a Formula. Do you have any pictures of it with the body kit? Kinda curious to see it.

Re: Looking to buy a 91 "Formula"

so the 305 TBI is whats in the car then. It is definately not a TPI setup under the hood.

here is the link to the listing http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/1327015835.html

The owner of the car says that its never had an engine rebuild or tranny rebuild. Even with the 235k miles on it, the car pulls strong and doesnt leak or smoke even a little bit. It will likely get a 383 or bigger so im not TOO worried about the motor holding up for longer than a year more.

I personally dont like the body kit that is on the car so i will be pulling it off and replacing it with 91 formula GFX... or possibly some from an older trans am.

Any other input on the car would be great.

It is either a formula or a base with the LO3 and no factory gfx package

Im betting formula since the wing is missing and they are commonly broken. Base wings are pretty tough

It does have an aftermarket kit installed. Predator I think

No formula ever had gfx from the factory

How much you looking to spend? I have a 91 Formula 350 with 51K original miles on it...still has the original tires.

Do you have the money to start and finish the upgrades within the next year? Or will you be waiting to save the money? You might be better off waiting 6-8 months and then buyin a third gen around then. You should be able to find one with better mileage on the ticker, which will equate to you saving money down the road. That and you might find a better deal.

Im just sayin 230+k miles is a helluva lot of miles. But its your money man. I just hope its worth it to you.

Miles are relative to how they are put on

We have 3 high mileage daily drivers here. 290k, 332k, 367k
All original engines
