Help please!! 1989 stalling!!
I have a 1989 RS Camaro with a 5.0L t.b.i. (E) code engine. It has a 700R4 trans. But when it gets to operating temp. It intermittently stalls and won't restart for about a half an hour. When trying to restart I get nothing. All the bells and whistles on the dash click on. But when in start posistion nothing turns off and I get nothing as far as the car trying to start. Any ideas?

Just so that im clear as to whats going on when hot the car dies randomly and wont even try to start back up for say 30 mins? When you turn the key nothing happens? Also when u say you turn the key and nothing turns off what are u referring to? Lastly when does it stall? At a stop light while your cruising steadily, from a take off, or just stalling under any driving conditions?

The car randomly dies at idle. Usually at stoplights after the car is warmed up. When the key is in the on position, my stereo turns on and lights turn on on the dash like normal. But when I try to start the car. It's like it never leaves the on position. Normally my stereo turns off and my guages turn off when I start the car. Then about 20 to thirty minutes later, it fires up like nothing ever happened.

Maybe an ignition switch or a VATS issue perhaps? what i would do first is have a helper hold the key in the start position and see if you have 12V at the starter on the start terminal (keep clear of the motor though as it would suck to get caught up in it should it try to start while your testing). The start terminal is the terminal on the starter that doesn't have the battery cable going to it. If there is 12V then were good but if there was the car should start so i suspect you'll get 0V

There are a couple of other things also. Your start switch on the column under the dash could bad or gets hot due to a hi load some where. Also if your steering wheel is a tilt one and the bolts that hold it together are loose, (can you woble the steering above the tilt). This will cause just enough missalignment to cause this also. Stanger things have happened.
Just a few ideas for ya.
