low fuel pressure! bad regulator or pump??
last week i installed a mechanical fuel pressure guage. Reason being, my car has been running lean on fuel in higher rpms... stumbling at start up... Its also down on power big time.
I was trying to raise the pressure with my adjustible regulator but it has almost no response to me turning the set screw. Which way do i turn the screw to raise pressure? Counter clockwise??
I had my fuel pump replaced with a walbro 255 a few years ago (6000km)
Ive also relocated my charcol canister, and around this time ive had problems.

attach a fuel pressure gauge to the rails and prime the pump . could be a bad diaphram in the regulator. pull the vacuum line to the regulator and smell for gas or vacuum test.

Re: low fuel pressure! bad regulator or pump??
I pinched the return line with the car running and the pressure increased. So now i think i might have to replace my regulator. Im under the impression that this proves that my pump is strong so in turn that would leave my regulator suspect...
i played around with the set screw on the reg. this time i turned it clockwise. The pressure went to 32psi/ 41 with vacuum line connected. I turned it counterclockwise last week and it ran like crap (20psi).
its a holley regulator i think. on the stealthram i have the screw facing the distributor. ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO ADJUST. Ive been busy fixing 2 other cars plus my day job so i have not had any time for the firebird. But now im focused on the firebird so i think my best bet is to replace the adjustible regulator with a quality unit. Also I would like to have the set screw facing out, but i think that the fuel return line would be close or in direct contact with my distributor.
How do you guys adjust your regulator. is it different on tpi intakes vs stealthram?
does anyone have any suggestions on manufactures and part #?
Or am i missing something and jumping to the conclusion its a bad regulator?

Re: low fuel pressure! bad regulator or pump??
I did some searching and noticed that the regulator on a tpi car sits right on the intake base. much different then holley unit.
can some one out there show me what a fuel regulator should look like on a stealthram. this does not seem right having to adjust this thing in a stupid spot. Ive also noticed that some people have there fuel rails, reg., fuel lines turned all 180 degrees. now the reason my unit is not flipped around is because i dont think it would work with a firebird or camaro.
