87 tpi 350 spark idle issues
Hi I am new to the site and tried searching everywhere prior to adding this as I know it will be somewhere. I am having problems with my tpi 350 and it is not showing a code. It will start and run ok AFTER I replaced something spark related and I would think I have fixed it. It has sat for a while and now has developed a problem where it wouldnt rev over 2500 just back fire and spark break down. I have repalced the leads and plugs now and dizzy and dizzy cap each time I have only replaced one item, it is ok for 1/2 hour then either goes back to 2500 rpm max or now it revs ok but wil not idle and just dies at the lights. I put a timimg light directly to the coil wire each time it stuffed around and the spark cuts out, when it is really bad it runs great for 30 seconds then no spark or cutting out spark dies.
I dont want to keep buying new parts as they are dear in Australia or I have to import them, has anyone had a problem like this or should I buy a coil. Is there a way to disconnect the ecu (only the distributer part) with out wrecking it. Can I just run the engine with the timing wire pulled and see if its the esc or computer related or just a weak coil. If I clean the rotor now and polish everythin it will be ok for a little while then load up and start spark missing. Any checks to save cash would be great. It is definately a spark cut out issue either from weak coil or something stopping the spark. power to the coil seems good.
Could poor idle mixture stop the spark or create a miis by fouling a plug,it just misses a spark or two when you watch it but is worse sometimes and just totally cuts out. Straight away it will restart perfect for 30 seconds other times its great for a few hours, which seems like a problem elsewhere to me and not plugs mixture etc.
DEFINATELY THE SPARK IS CUTTING AT THE SAME TIME THE ENGINE MISSES OR DIES, RUNS POOR ETC.
.Any help guys would be great. Thanks Link

Re: 87 tpi 350 spark idle issues
Ok Heres todays probs. Starts dies restarts dies. Only code I can get is 51 or no codes just lithg staying on. Disconnect tuning wire runs fine, reconnect dies at low revs, wont idle. If I disconnect the tuning wire or the tacho wire it runs poorly but at least it runs. With it all plugged in, the coil is cut of spark within 30 seconds. 51 is a poor prom code I know but I have reseated it and even wiggled it around while running, sometimes it comes good for a second or two then dies again. Idles really good with the timing wire disconnected and the spark is fine for however long. Not of much use though as it would go like a hunk of junk.
Ecu or prom what do you think. Thanks Link
