Comp cam

I just bought a engine. It has a comp cam and comp cam double valve springs. Do i have to remove the inner valve springs when breaking in the engine? What would be the best way to remove them? Thanks

Re: Comp cam

yes, you have to. As for how, do you want to do it the cheapest way, the easiest way, or the best way?

I think that if you have a roller cam, you don't need to remove the inner springs during break-in. A non-roller, I'd think that you do need too.

It has a flat tappet cam. How do i remove the inner valve springs? My dad said to rig up a rubber peice on the end of a air gun and remove the spark plug and pressureize the cylinder so the valve wont fall out. What do you guys think?

Re: Comp cam

Yes you need too pressurize the cylinder with air. I used an air hose that is part of a cylinder compression tester kit. It worked well.

Works very well!

I have done the same for many spring swaps and valve seal replacements.
