Paper towel in my #1 cylinder...Timing?
A guy at work told me to find TDC seting my ignition timing, I can stuff a paper towel in my #1 cylinder and crack the engine until the paper towel pops out and that'll get me close enough to set the timing from there.??? How true is this?

pull the spark plug. put your finger over the spark plug hole. rotate the crank with a wrench from the crank pulley. when the compression pushes your finger off the hole, the cylinder is at TDC.

I wouldn't trust cheap paper towels...but a good name brand roll...that should do the trick.
I'm on the 'put thumb over hole, rotate with a wrench on crank pulley' crowd on this one. More precise than using the starter motor...who knows where its going to stop.
