Re: how to improve my 87 firebird
TPI = Tuned Port Injection which is the true fuel injection system for GM FBody cars
TBI = Throttle Body Injection which is a sort of like a half carb half fuel injection system for GM FBody cars
the way to tell the diff is that TPI looks like a giant brushed silver looking spider looking contraption sitting on the engine and a TBI has the old school circular air cleaner.

Posting in the Appearance and Detailing section under Members Rides isn't the appropriate place for technical questions like this.... I have moved to a more appropriate section.

hey welcome to the site! well i myself have an 87 firebird! if it is totally stock (like mine) here is my plan.
get rid of your emmisions junk. to plug the holes to your manifolds, a 1/4" plug can be bought at a local hardware store. if your a/c works ,keep it on, otherwise get rid of it too, or take the belt off you want to keep it. if your doing exaust thats always a plus. i run 87 gas, but we can run 93 too. if yours is a carb like mine, im betting you have an LG4. and yes k&n air filters are good way to get more zoom zoom lol. and go cool air intake (for carb motors its just an open filter) and the hedders thing, gotta have that, spray the f*** out of them with WD-40. my buddy broke some bolts on his 2nd gen..... its not fun. if you want to get real into keeping your 305, a cam is good just a mild one will do good. keep oil REALY clean, and you dont need any "special" spark plugs. just the single will work fine, unless you realy want to. upgrading wires is good too what ever be your prefered brand. and other than that drop a 350 in it if you want alot more horses.
