1991 Camaro RS - 350 Carb Swap from chevelle (Original TBI 305)

350 (Supposedly rebuilt) and I did an oil change and we got this milkshake mixture coming out. I also keep overheating after a few minutes of running. I'm thinking because I'm mixing either antifreeze and oil or water and oil it's overheating. I noticed the residue when I wen't to put new valve cover gaskets on. It starts up fine and runs pretty good (minus a little valve lash and a now broken motor mount). So far the advice I've gotten was Head Gasket Blown. My question is The Heads themselves or just the head gasket needs to be replaced? Any help is highly appreciated and welcome.

--I put a new dual fan, hi performance 180 degree thermostat and gasket and radiator works fine. The timing is also correct and firing order. New Edelbrock RPM Intake, Holley Carb and Distributor with Cap n Rotor fully done with 50,000 volt coil, Accel 8MM wires and plugs, Hedman Longtubes and Flowmasters 3in. American Thunder Cat Back Dual, Custom made Y pipe.

The fact it overheats quickly sounds like blown head gasket
Check for bubbles in your radiator or lots of steam out the exhaust
Usually only need to replace head gasket; worst case head has to be skimmed

 

The Intake is BRAND NEW out of the box. Edelbrock RPM Intake w new intake gasket set. Why intake?

 

So you think the blown head gasket too. Okay then. Not famiiar with head being skimmed? What exactly is that? Thanks though.

 

definetly sounds like a head gasket if i were you stop running the motor becuase you will evenuntually warp your heads then have to get them "skimmed" which probably means getting them milled at a machine shop becuase you can't use em if there warped and the reason stop running your engine cause the motor is overheating bad

 

Not to mention antifreeze doesn't lubricate like oil and you're chewing up your bearings.

 

Thanks a lot guys. I really do appreciate the help, really. I ordered the head gaskets already and I'm gonna have the car towed to my mechanic and do this change.

 

Don't be surprised if he tells you you've got cracked heads or a cracked block.

 

Look dude, this is the deal with that. You either have a blown head gasket or a cracked block. Is there any coolant leaking from the engine block itself? (bleeding down the sides)? Also a block can crack inside, or in the water jacket. Anyway, you probably just have a blown head gasket. Yes, you will have to take the heads off and have them resurfaced at a machine shop. This usually cost like forty bucks or so. I would also use new head bolts. This whole job including oil and antifreeze can be accomplished for a little over a hundred bucks. It may be worth the time and effort.

 

Hey dude, just another thing. After you have your heads inspected for cracks or bent valves, etc. Remember after you have it resurfaced, your car will have a little more compression and horsepower! Good luck with that

 

Make sure to get heads magnafuxed. Your mech should know that. good luck!
