Re: balancer center bolt cause knocking???
Im confused. Was the metal inside of the pan or outside of it? Better yet, was metal in the oil itself? Have you checked your bearings? A balancer "floating" on the crank could possibly have been the cause, but I have yet to run across that problem. Sounds to me as if your oil pressure was low, metal met metal, temps went sky high, then knocks came a knocking. Anytime there is metal in your pan, your best bet is a complete teardown and rebuild. You dont want any of that metal floating around in your engine. It will tear up more things than you can imagine. Once you completely tear the engine down you should be able to see where that metal came from. Hope this helps.

while its definitely not a good thing, i don't think it would have caused the metal you found in your pan. You're definitely going to be in for a rebuild though.
