crate engine + supercharger?
Ok,
so i was looking at having a 454 block built specifically for a supercharger, however i have since decided to use that build for another project and was hoping to catch a break.
I have been considering this crate motor from summit for alittle while:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MLL-BP3830CTC/
however i was curious if bolting on a supercharger would be a good idea? any ideas if the motor could even take it, or would it be a horrible idea?
here is a supercharger i was considering bolting on:

I was originally look at a 8-71 roots supercharger but i was unsure if i wanted to bother with such a big setup on a sbc.
im open to any ideas or criticism. id like to keep this as low budget as a supercharged project can be. however if there is another supercharger that would work better or be cheaper and more daily driver friendly let me know.
thanks in advance,
-alex

2 things bother me about putting a s/c on that motor: 1 the compression and 2 the pistons are not forged. I'm not saying it wont work, just my 2 cents.

Any engine can take 5-7PSI of boost, reguardless of how you get it; if the stock compression ratio isn't through the roof already.
After that a proper tune is in order.
If your DET'n all over the place, even a built for it engine will go poopoo

ya, i noticed it wasnt forged pistons so i did think about that. however a supercharged motor would i want a lower compression ratio? or higher? im guessing lower.

Re: crate engine + supercharger?
A supercharged engine will NEED lower compression. Same idea with a turbo setup. basically its a forced induction system. meaning you Force air into the engine, subsequently raising its compression ratio. But i agree that 5-7 lbs of boost arent worth being nervous over... ***correction, a supercharged engine doesnt "need" lower compression, you could run like 116 octane through it just fine... lower compression just translates into what gas you use. If you could get your hands on some E85..... that stuffs amazing and really high octane, seing as its pretty much 15% liquor....

yeah I always thuoght it would be interesting to run a 9.5:1 engine with forced induction on ethanol. But I was just reading on wikipedia and it was sying that the real world octane rating of ethanol is only 94-96.
