Does the motor need to come out for...

Hello everyone, I've had a 1989 IROC-Z w/ a 350 TPI for about 6 months and im the 9th (yeah, its clean too!) owner. I've noticed antifreeze leaking from the flywheel/torque converter shield and the leaking amounts change from a puddle to drips for no reason, which leads me to believe a bad softplug. I think there is at least one in the back of that particular motor, correct? and if so, will the motor have to be pulled in order to change it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you pulled the inspection cover to verify it's coming from inside the bellhousing? More likely it's being dripped onto the bellhousing, like the heater hoses.

If it is leaking from there either the trans or engine will have to come out to get access

Could be an intake gasket leak as well... there are outlets on both ends of the heads, and cutouts in both ends of the gaskets... see if theres antifreeze running down the head or is pooled on the bellhousing flange.
