using tons of oil at wot

for a while now my car has been using a ton of oil and im trying to narrow it down.

the problem is only at wot as far as i can tell when i punch it i get a smokescreen out the tail pipes like nothing i've ever seen and the smell of oil in the car. no external leaks. no. 1,7,and 2 spark plugs get oil on the threads and crudded up pretty bad. heck if i have a night where im on the car hard i can put in as much as 1 1/2 qts the next day. no problems normal driving though.

i was able to get a compression tester on the worst plug no. 7 and it showed 170 175 didn't get to the other ones though.

i have a catch can set up after the pcv valve and i do get some oil in it but if anything it is an extremely small amount.

i was told it could be anything from valve seals to intake leak to rings.

motor is a crate zz4 350 carb with about 3-5000 miles on it (never got the speedometer hooked up lol)

am i looking at a ring job? i was praying it's not the rings since it was a crate motor and i figured i didnt have to deal with rebuilding a new dang motor lolol

thanks

Re: using tons of oil at wot

intake gaskets can be famous for leaking on the lower part of the port only under hard WOT but usually only after many miles.

If its a crate and the heads/block were machined and intake not it can be hard to seal without machining intake.

Or just even lose intake boltes, bad asembly work...........

If your sure its not rings or vavles.............

im praying it's something as simple as the intake when i got the motor 3/4 years ago i had to change the intake gaskets because the rear by the dizzy was leaking. maybe it didnt seal right. also i checked and 3 of the bolts were loose.

gonna change the gaskets again and hope for the best

You might want to use some black gasket maker on them with the gaskets to. I have aways had problems just putting the gaskets in dry.

Re: using tons of oil at wot

Do you have the right dipsitck in the engine? Run an engine over-full and it'll use quite a bit of oil, especially at higher RPMs when the crank is slinging a ton of it at the undersides of the pistons.

Run compression on all 8 cylinders and see if you've got any low.

Oil leaking past the valve guides/seals wouldn't be any worse at WOT than it would be at light throttle.

I never have any luck with them china wall gasket, front n back of intake.

Even the good felpro kit ones always squeeze out.

Why even on the TV shows they throw them in the trash and use just regular
black RTV for the front n back.

thats what ive always done too.
when your tightening the intake down, be sure to work from the inside bolts out in a cris crosing bolt sequence.
