I have an 86 camaro with a 2.8L v6 and a 5 speed trans. The car is currently throwing code 34 which the book says is maf(gm/sec HI). Driving around town it usually runs decent, it will idle too high for a little while and then settle down and the exhaust smells funky. When I take it down the interstate it sounds a little ruff and then idles way too low and smokes like crazy when I get off. I tried replacing the MAF relay and cleaning the MAF with some cleaner and that didn't do anything and I was trying to avoid replacing the MAF until I was sure that was the problem.

Does this sound like the MAF is the problem or is there anything else I could try?
