Trying to find info on previoud lemon law 91 Z

i am looking at a 91 Z convert. Ran a carfax before I bought it, and it shows a 1993 lemon law buy back by dealer in NY.

It has since had 50K miles put on it and a couple owners.

I am trying to find out WHY it was recalled before (if) I buy it.
Does anyone know of a site or anything?

Called dealer , and GM direct. they said records only go back 10 years to date. no help.

Called NY DMV(where it was lemon lawed) and they said only way to find out is to call owner when it was recalled (impossible)

If it was something dumb I dont mind, but i figured it is ususally pretty serious if it couldnt be fixed by warranty and it bought back. I am just worried it could be a frame issue or something, since my pop had a 87 iroc recalled lemon law.

thanks in advance.

Re: Trying to find info on previoud lemon law 91 Z

From what I understand, in order to get it recalled under lemon law rulings, it has to have some problem or other that it has been to the dealer on multiple occasions, for the SAME complaint, which the dealer was either unable, or unwilling, to fix. It also needs to be some significant problem. Poor radio reception isn't gonna fly.

If you call the dealer that was working on it, they should have repair records, but, you will need the vin, or, the owners name at the time of the recall. *ooops.* I see you already called the dealer..... if they don't have the records anymore, you might be able to talk to sales, and see who bought it... Don't know if they will hand out the info.

If it has since had 50K miles put on it since the lemonade trouble..... I would guess that whatever reason it was recalled for wasn't really that much of an issue. (and this is ONLY a guess.) Might wanna ask the current seller what they know about it as well...

Re: Trying to find info on previoud lemon law 91 Z

thanks man.

I mentioned it to the current seller, and he knew nothing about it.

since it is now titled in PA and was lemoned in NY, the title says nothing about it I guess.

The dealer I called is the local where my friend works, but he couldnt get info. dont know where it was originally sold unfortunately. since dealer & GM records only go back 10 years they said. I had it checked at both sources by the VIN number.

I ran into the Lemon Law buyback by running an Autocheck on it or I never would have known.

Try calling GM customer service: 1.800-222-1020 see if they can lend a hand.

Re: Trying to find info on previoud lemon law 91 Z

called GM at that number already.

they ran the VIN, but said it didnt bring anything up because their system also only goes back 10 years to the day.

I do appreciate all your help though!
