I thought this would be better served in the Tech/General Engine forum.

wile you have the engine out you should clean up under the hood and maybe spray paint it
it not only looks good, but if you ever sell it, it will seem like you did a lot of work not just an engine swap

Re: 88 iroc-z 305 to 350 engine swap
im having a problem with my 305 to 350 engine swap the block is a 350 from a 95-00 silververado 1500 i had to change the heads so the intake manifold would fit but now when i put in my stock distributor from my old 305 it wont fit correctly.it seems to be about 1/2 inch to tall.could it be that im not putting it in correctly or is it that i need to get a new one that will fit. has anyone had this problem or does anyone have any tips or ideas that will fix my problem. THANKS!!!

It could be the oil pump shaft not aligning up correctly with the distributer drive. In this case you would need a oil pump primer, then turn the oil pump shaft little by little untill you can get the distributor drive to hook in to the shaft.

I'd put it slightly differently - it is the oil pump shaft not aligning up correctly with the distributor drive. You can try to move the pump shaft so it aligns when you drop in the distributor, or you can put it in like you did, bump the engine over until it lines up and drops down.

Re: 88 iroc-z 305 to 350 engine swap
thanks it work i finally got the distributor in. i tried turning on the car but it wont start. it turns over but it wont start. i then sprayed carb cleaner into the throttle body and started and it ran for like 10 seconds. i was thinking maybe im not getting enough fuel to the the injectors. maybe my 305 fuel pimp is not strong enough for the 350?does anyone know what might be the problem.

Re: 88 iroc-z 305 to 350 engine swap
It sounds like a Fuel problem, at least that is where I would start... The 305 & 350 FP are identical, so it would not be the difference in the pump.
Here is a checklist for you...
1) when you turn your car on, can you hear the fuel pump running?
2) If not, can you hear the solenoid click.
3) Check the schrader valve on the passenger side of the intake to see if you are getting fuel pressure.
If the car ran before the swap, and now it is not running, then it is probably something simple... It may be a bad ground on the fuel injectors... If it was a wire, then it should run really rough, but a ground would not let it fire at all...

Re: 88 iroc-z 305 to 350 engine swap
It might be the body ground cable that attaches to the head, but if it was that I would suspect other things might not work either... I would start checking continuities, and injectors. It sounds like a Fuel problem...

Make sure there is a Continuous connection...
Continuity comes from the word continuous.
