Water pump pulley Split

Ok, I have searched throughout the forums and have found not a thing about thing problem. As you guys know I put a new water pump on my Bird and got it back running. As I was driving to work the other day I heard a rattling that sounded like my water pump pulley was loose, but yet there was not any fan nosie or anything else, so I limped all the way into work. Now that I am off I have looked at the pulley and found that the back set of grooves in it separated from the front. I figured I would remove my shim and then that would set the pulley back farther and I could just use the front half of it, but the power steering pump and alternator belts wont align on it at all. The a/c pump and A.I.R. pump have been removed and I have this huge pulley with only two belts to go on it and now it is broke in half. How do I fix this issue? And if I cant repair how can I get another pulley? I have never heard of this happening to anyone, I am at a loss and it is my DD.

That's pretty weird.

Used is probably your only choice.

Yes went to a salvage yard the guy wanted 25.00 for a used pulley. I told him thats a bit steep since you can get aftermarket cheaper.

Re: Water pump pulley Split

Yes he did in fact, but then again he was a very rude individual, he looked at me like I had two heads when I showed him the broken pulley and asked him if he had one like it that was not broken. Now the only issue I have is the place I was going to get the after market pulley from is no longer here they closed up and left (such is my luck lol). Does anyone know if the SBC pulleys will fit on my engine, or of a place I get the correct pulleys? I was thinking of buying a set of crankshaft and water pump pulleys two grooves on each. I am trying to figure out what I can do with this. Options I have are 1. Put the old front half of the pulley back on with shims and just run alt. with no power steering. 2. See if I can get the pulley welded back together and aligned properly. 3. Try JB weld on it ( but I think it wont work personally not strong enough). Anyone got any good ideas and information to help me out, I really need to get this bird back on the road, and wife says if it breaks again I gotta sell it off and I really love my bird.

Re: Water pump pulley Split

Give the grumpy man his $25.

Gotta know when it's time to fight a battle and when it's time to just fork over cash.

SBC V8 pulleys won't interchange with a 60* V6 engine (2.8, 3.1, etc.)
