Headlight motor repair

1992 Trans Am

I just replaced the bearings in the headlight motors but now when they go up or down the motor gets jammed in that position until I manually turn the motor till it is loose then it will go down on its own. But once its down it gets stuck again! Any ideas or suggestions? all wiring and relays are fine.

Re: Headlight motor repair

just happens.... mine have been doing this for years but its not all the time... once every couple of weeks they will get stuck in the up or down positon. i just crank them alittle by hand to get them loose and then use the switch.

did u replace the nylon tablets inside the housings? these are what cause the friciton to pull and push the headlights... these nylon bushings wear away and cause excessive play in the gears causing the headlights to just get stuck or not move at all. my stuck issue is from the motors turning the headlights to far up or down and cause the swivel bar to go to far and lock itself. I aways replace the nylon bushings bc they are cheap and are the usual problems with these headlights.

Re: Headlight motor repair

Thanks for the Info. I found out it was because the motor cover was cracked near the screw that holds the cap on. I drilled a new hole and used a bolt to tighten the cover down and it now works perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion and your time.
