need help car in shop for a week with no luck

I have a 1989 rs with the 2.8. A couple of weeks ago my car wouldn't start. It had weak spark from the coil and nothing going to the plugs. I replaced the dist, cap, rotor and ign coil. Car still wouldn't start so I took it to a shop b4 wasting any money on unnecessary parts. They told me that the new dist. I bout was bad and installed a new one for me. After I picked up the car it drove for about an hour then stalled and wouldn't start. Had it towed back to the shop and again no spark. They thought the comp. was bad and tried a new one. The car started and drove while they did the test drive. But it wouldn't start again after that. Again no spark. Can anyone hellp me figure out wat is going on here?

Sounds like the ignition chip (forgot the name), located in the distributor. If you reused this and it is bad, it could be overheating and causing this problem.

FYI, this thread would get much more responses in the V6 Forum.

I would say that it is an ignition module if they reused your old module in the new distributor. Chances are that it malfunctions when the car is hot. Best thing to do is run the car until it warms up and stalls. Then test the ignition module and the pickup coil in the distributor.

They used several new modules and still had problems. Just got the car back and the harness had damaged wires from being too close to exhaust manifold. A few splices and I'm roliing again. Thanks for replying
