speedometer cable?

Car: 1989 Iroc rebuild
Engine: 355 carb'd
Transmission: 5spd
Axle/Gears: 3:08 pos for a while
speedometer cable?
took off in the rebuild IROC tonite and all of a sudden a heavy clicking started,kinda like you run over something stuck to your tire,then noticed speedo not working?,since it's clicking is it just loose at gauge,did notice alot of wavering around previously.I remember when I had the dash out,I never could get it unhooked at speedo,so just left it hooked up to dash and transfered it that way. since no clicking when backing up,it's definitely cable isn't it? Thanx in advance for any help
