Throttle position sensor

Got my 88 IROC a week ago, check engine light was on.Got a scanner and it says TPS voltage low.Pulled it up and it was only .19 volts, read it was supposed to be.54 Tried adjusting it but can only get to .35 before i run out of adjustment slot.It looks like a new part. Do i slot it out? do i need to adjust the stop screw on throttle body? It still has the plug in it.Looking for some advice.

Re: Throttle position sensor

Your old one is probably worn out. Replace it.

0.54v is fine. 0.50v is a perfect setting but anywhere from 0.045v ~ 0.055v will work.

Re: Throttle position sensor

Yes, I agree with Stephen. It sounds like your TPS is bad, replace it. BTW: I have my TPS set at 0.60V. Make sure you buy a TPS with slotted mounting holes so that you can adjust it.

Re: Throttle position sensor

I replaced my TPS on my 91 GTA but the sensor was not slotted, therefore non adjustable. Did they change the TPS on the speed density systems?

Yes , does not requuire adjusting
The computer takes the lowest voltage it sees and uses that as the base.
