Ok so I have a 92' Z28 350tpi and I can never tell how much gas i really have. Lets say the gauge is at a half a tank at idle, well as soon as I start giving it gas the gauge will rise to 3/4 tank and then upon slowing down or braking, it will drop BELOW the half tank line then slowly rise up.
I thought my gauge was screwed up but then remembered my 4th gen had the same problem.
Any way to get a somewhat accurate reading? Should I go by what it says when idling or in park?
Thanks

Oh also my coolant temp gauge doesnt even work. It just stays at 110 or 100 or whatever the lowest is, no matter how long the car is turned on or driving. The car is running great, no problems whatsoever, but could this be a problem? A broken gauge?
That sounds exactly like my car i know how much gas i have only when i park the car...it moves up when i step on it and drops when i brake.

Only time you know how much fuel it has is when you fill it up, then you have 15.5 Gal. Drive it until your at 1/2 tank parked and fill it again, do the same at 1/4 tank, then you have markers. I know my car gets 100 miles until the gauge even gets below full then gets about 50 miles per 1/4 tank.Originally Posted by 3rdGenGuy6792

Seriously... I want to tell you to "use the force" ... but my ultimate solution to this was to get a digital fuel gauge.
Hmm im looking into some digital gauges. I might even get a couple other gauges and just put them in a double/triple gauge pod. Gotta love that look haha.
Any suggestions on a cheap fuel gauge, preferably one that lights up for night? I checked jegs and summit but a good gauge usually runs about $40-$50
I mean if I have to ill get one but id rather get a cheaper one

Hows this gauge? Looks pretty cool. Good price also. Another thing, how hard is it to install fuel gauges? Should I just get it professionally done or would a self install be okay? Thanks

That would indicate a problem with the gauge sender unit in tank being worn ( not uncommon ) or damaged.Originally Posted by 3rdGenGuy6792

The gauge is only showing the info given to it by the tank sender unit
