noise

All right, I have an 89 V6 RS 5 speed and I bought it mainlly because the body is perfect. I don't want to do anything special right now, just get it road worthy. The car will start easy, but, there is a small knock coming from what sounds to me like the top end. It is very noticable when the car accelerates. After the car warms up the noise goes away then comes back and so on. When I bought the car it had a dent in the oil pan that leaked oil. I have already replaced the oil pan and I didn't see any flakes in the oil( what little there was). Oil pressure gauge shows the highest possible presure if not a little past that. I have a feeling that I might have to replace the oil pump and sending unit. Need some input.

QUIET! I’m Listening

Noise should be diagnosed to find out where it’s coming from.

You can use a rubber hose, sometimes with a funnel at the probing end, as a stethoscope.

Watch out for moving parts !

If you localize it to the valve cover(s) you can remove it to further localize.

Happy Racing!

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards

When you see fog lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.

How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime, and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain

A long-handled screwdriver makes a great stethescope - place the tip against anything, then put you ear GENTLY against the plastic handle - the vibrations are sent through the screwdriver right to the ear drum - just be careful!
