408 sb

has any one built a 408 stroker from a small block 350 block. i know a guy that builds big cube small blocks right now he is doing a 427 from a 350 block. how much more would a 408 be compared to a 383 stroker he says just the crank would have to be a 4" stroke 5.7 rods and a compression height of 1.275. i am going to go with all forged so if i ever wont to put some juice to it i can, but still make alot of power with just motor. what size cam, is it worth doing a 4/7 swap. thanks jason

If you're going to go through all that, you might want to consider starting with an aftermarket block. Fitting a 4" stroke crank in requires some pretty heavy clearancing around the oil pan rails and cylinder bottoms, and you can run into the water passages.

A 427 is a 400 block with a 4" stroke crank, fitting a 4" stroke crank in a 350 block, id almost guarantee, youd be grinding into water, thats ALOT of material to remove from the block, Id look at the Dart SHP series, in 4.125" bore, put a 3.75" stroke crank for a 400ci, or a 4.00" stroke crank for a 427

Re: 408 sb

so we talked to a few machine shops and the place that we are getting block from and cnc machined they say it will fit, we are using a pre 85 block with 2 pc seal, 4" crank and 6" rod have pistions on order to they are a custom set not sure on brand or compresion height yet. it will be bored out to 4.060 total displacment will be 414 with a 64cc aluminum head, we figure it should put out around 500 hp and a lot of torque, and be able to handle a shot of juice to down the road. all forged crank, pistion and rods. will also be trying out the zero gap rings to, with a 4-7 swap cam. will update when more parts show up.

has any one used the zero gap rings are they better then the regular rings
