Cold Start Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, i just got a new ignition coil put on. My car won't start after it sits for a couple days. I can get it started but what i do is cover the intake so it gets no air, then it will gargle and then start. Because its being suffocated, does that mean it forces fuel to the injectors, if its lossing fuel pressure over time.I have no idea what this means. My mechanic didn't even know. Tomorrow i will try one method i read about where you crank the car for like a half a second and then keep doing that to see if it starts. Does that mean every time it cranks it pushes fuel throught the lines and if its done enough it will start? But once it starts, it runs like a champ. I don't what to do, ive already put a grand in this car to keep it running. im only 17, i cant keep affording new parts for this pos. btw it has new ignition coil, new fuel pressure regulator, new plugs, new battery, new MAF sensor.

Re: Cold Start Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i tried the 2nd method i said before and that didn't work. i checked the fuel pressure after it sat for a couple days and went straight to 40 psi. The fuel systems good. I have good spark (msd box, msd ignition coil, new spark plugs). Today i got it started. Awhile ago when i would start it, i would put my hand over the mass air flow sensor opening with the air box off. Then the car would gurgle a little bit then finally start, and ran fine after that, you could turn it off then start it up instantly and drove fine. Well today i tried that method again, and it started INSTANTLY. literally no time between when i turned the key and when it fired. It idled kind of wierd at first, but i put the air box on and the idle smoothed out. I am so baffled at what this could be. maybe iac? there are no engine codes at all. It seems my car likes to be suffocated.

Its always hard to diagnose something without hearing it but I will try. First off, it sounds like you have verified basics spark, fuel, etc. Have you checked timing yet and set it at 6 degress BTDC with EST wire disconnected?

Secondly, take a can of throttle body cleaner and lightly spray around vacuum connections to see if you have a vacuum leak. If the idle changes you have a vacuum leak.

Also, check the voltage of the throttle position sensor. If you have a multimeter you simply make jumpers between the sensor and factory harness and check voltage. I think voltage at idle should be .54 volts.

Lastly, you may want to clean your IAC and reset it. It unscews from the throttle body itself. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tpi/...faq-index.html

Jump spots A&B on the ALDL and turn the key to on (do not start). Wait 30 seconds to allow the IAC to fully close. Unplug the IAC, turn off key and pull connector out of ALDL. This should have fully closed the IAC to reset it. Try to start the car and see if it does any better.

I am by no means an expert, so get opinions from others who know more than I do.
