Wow! please help car wont start after stereo install

Well i let my buddy install my new stereo yesterday stereo works fine but car wont start!
We traced it back and he ran a seperate ground wire and had the stereo grounded to one of the power door lock.
Everything works except the car wont start the starter wont turn over and no click.
On top of all that the stereo works without the ground wire from the deck hooked up to anything.
Any ideas?

I think you might want to recheck all your connections, grounds ,power, how you hooked up the head unit. might have crossed some wires somewhere. but when you do hook everything up,make sure the connections are tight( not overly crazy tight though) its never fun going though the whole car and trying to find out why your battier dies every few days after you do a huge swap.....yep thats what im looking for

The stereo is probably finding a ground through the chassis, or else the antenna or speaker wires. Without a ground, it wouldn't work.

Check your fuse panel and make sure that your friend didn't inadvertently blow a fuse when he did the installation.

Fuses ok the fuse for the interior lights and locks and stuff was blown but replaced and ok now.
How could grounding to the door locks cause the car not to start?
It's driving me crazy

When something like this happens, you can bet it's because something was inadvertently knocked loose or whatever. When you turn the ignition key to "ON", do your gauges and idiot lights wake up?

If they do, then I would check to make sure that he didn't knock your VATS wire loose (assuming you have it, and from the year I am guessing you do). Also check your neutral safety switch if automatic, or your clutch switch if it's a manual.

thanks for the replies so far guys.
Yes when I turn the key and try to start it all the idiot lights come on.
The security light doesn't stay on so would that be the vats?

No, if the security light goes out after 3 seconds, VATS is working OK.

Glad to see you found the problem.

I know it's a year later, but what did you do to fix that problem? I'm having the exact same issue.
