air intake issues

This might not be the right board for this but oh well. Last october i wrecked my 86 iroc, leaving work i got ran of the road by some a..s....... well you know. i hit the guard rail on the drivers side corner of the front end at about 15-20. didnt look to bad. well my uncles shop screwed around since i store my car in the winter till about late december to even start working on it. well his 2500$ estimate from looking it over jumped up to 5500$ when they tore it down earlier this month. it wasnt totaled but i wanted to save some money from that to get the whole car painted.

now. one of the things that jumped out at me on the estimate was the 450+$ air intake. i wanted to just buy a cone airfilter and pop it on the throttle body and go, saving 400 bucks. if im right my car has a maf system and after three weeks the only one ive found is from jegs and its not maf compatible, and i cant even find a cold air intake. i was wondering if anyone knew where to get one that is maf compatible or if im better off custom fabing a cold air myself with my dads pipe bender, and if that would work. thanks for any help.

Re: air intake issues

Wow - all I can say is that for $5500, I could have 2 IROC's parked in the driveway! I'd say get another one, put your good parts on it, and part the rest.

Re: air intake issues

woot the first sign of progress since i wrecked it. built my own full custom cold air intake that included my maf sensor for less than 100 bucks. was so much easier when i just did it then it was thinking if it would work.
