87 iroc z28
87 iroc z28
Ok I just bought this 87 iroc off this kid who is about to ship off to basic for 700. It was already converted from TPI to Carb, when I bought it from him he told me all I had to do was just reinstall the carb and get a new battery. which i did however i;m not certain I did it right because when i try to start it it's hit or miss and when i occasionally does start it only runs for a few seconds. The longest so far has been about 15 seconds before it stalls. I'm new to this and am sort of learning as I go does anyone know what I may have done wrong or what could be the problem. Tha carb is a holley 650. I including a few pics showing wear i plugged the hoses. Thanks in advance for all your help.
Re: 87 iroc z28
ok possibly answering my own question is it possibly the problems could be my alternator and not my carb. only ask because i just managed to keep it running longest time yet by pumping the gas until huge blue sparks started flashing under the hood in the general area of the alternator.

Check the choke for proper operation.

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards
When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.
How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime
and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain

That carb looks like it's been sitting a while. Perhaps it's mucked up inside with old gas, gum and varnish.
What are those hoses connected to (see attached)?

Re: 87 iroc z28
the first one is the vacuum hose and the second is fuel the return line i do believe. if those are wrong or in the wrong place maybe that's where i messed up. also i'll head out later and get some carb cleaner. note I've not messed with the idle speed or mixture i left it as how the guy before me had it. would a bad mixture cause this problem?
