mystery oil leak?

hey guys. ive been having an oil leak for about 6 months and it pisses out pretty good. its coming from the starter area or above and i can figure out where. i just recently did a HSR intake swap and i thought it was the old intake. ive done valve cover gaskets on it and just checked it to find no fresh oil. i put it up in the air and its to soaked with oil to figure out where the source is even after i clean it.

what else could i look at that might be it. ive got every single little oil leak taken care of and then about a month later this one started.

its a 90 formula, auto with a 5.7 tpi

thanks guys. this oil leak is really ticking me off.

Re: mystery oil leak?

Pull the torque converter cover off (Black plastic connected to the front of the tranny 4 10mm bolts) . If there is a puddle of oil chillin in the bottom, unfortunately you blew a rear main seal. Only way to get that replaced is to pull the tranny off :/

Re: mystery oil leak?

or could be a bad oil pan gasket. I have the same leak and my motor only has 2k on it. I have a chrome oil pan and i know that is part of the problem.

x2 that is my guess...

If its a rear main seal it will be sprayed across the ground like someone used a spray bottle. Also I doubt its the rear main because its on the side of the motor not the rear.

Re: mystery oil leak?

ive replaced the dip stick it self and i bet the tube that came with it is in the dump somewhere because i thought id never need it and wanted to make space in the garage.
