clutch wont disengage
i have a 1988 camaro that had a 2.8 now has a 350. i so far have put a new slave and master in it and cant seem to get the travel i need to get the clutch to disengage i used a harmonic balancer puller to push out the clutch fork and it will disengage but cant get the hydralics to push it out enough i did notice little fluid coming from the back of the new master any ideas on what needs to be done?

When did you notice the fluid coming out of the new master???
Was it before or after you bled the system???
Is it possible that your new master has developed a "bypass" of fluid that prevents you from getting the travel that you need???
's worth of questions, can develop into a whole bunch of $$$$ saving answers!!!
Re: clutch wont disengage
i returned the new master for a replacement appearently the rear seal was junk. im just confused because if i use something to push the fork out it will disengage but with the hydralics it wont push it out enough
Re: clutch wont disengage
i shimmed out the transmission today about 1/8" after reading the v6 t-5 input shaft is longer and the clutch started to work still cant get 1st and reverse but it doesnt take off right away. should i shim it out more? the slave seems to be throwing the distance it should be. any help is appreicated

Is there a different slave cylinder for the V6 vs V8 transmission??
If there is, the one for the V6 may have a longer piston, and that would give you a longer throw, which would cure your problem, I believe!!

Re: clutch wont disengage
well check into different slave options as stated above and then bleed the system of air, its highly important, my buddy re did his whole system like this when we were in college and he never bled it had the very same issue, it takes 2 ppl btw

same slave cylinder for v6 and v-8 i actually have the v-6 slave on there. i have the v-6 t5 behind it and i used a 10.5" pressure plate with the 9.2" clutch disc for the 14 spline. i read in another post the v-6 t5 input shaft is longer so i shimmed it about 1/8" yesterday and it seemed to disengage but not all the way. Still cant get 1st and reverse. I think ill try shimming it out to 1/4" and see if that helps. All i can say though is this is my first camaro project and replacing the clutch master cylinder is FUN!!!! not

Glad that you got it figured out!!
Don't abuse the T-5 too much, I believe that the V-6 T-5 isn't a WC T-5, I could be wrong, even though they went to the WC T-5 in 1988!! I believe that it was only the V-8's that got them until the early 90's!!

's worth!!correct, youve still got the fiber blocker rings rather than the brass WC ones and your needle bearings are also loose rather than caged, they arent too strong, i watched my buddy buy a "WCT5" beat the **** out of it and blow it a week later, i pulled it apart and it wasnt a WC lol
Re: clutch wont disengage
thanks for the info. i dont plan on beating on it just want to do some cruising with the t-tops off then i can change it out for something stronger. a buddy of mine dropped a 355 built race motor in a 96 s-10 with a t5 and constantly beats the snot out of it and has held up for 5 years burning 3 gears of rubber

The problem with the NWC T-5, 5-speeds is that you could have one that takes all kinds of abuse, and then never has a problem, then you could have one that won't take any mild abuse at all!! Kind of like Forest Gump said, "Like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get"!!

Re: clutch wont disengage

There is no better sound like a small block Chevy V-8, or big block Chevy V-8 for that matter, at full song!!!
Bring on the American Thunder, I'm sure glad it was imported into Canada, or else I'd have to move........some place warm, and drier, like Arizona!!!
