Idle is all over the place

Alright, so just as the title states the idle on my car seems to be different every time I start it. Sometimes it will be insanely high like 2500 and then I can turn it off and start it up again and it will drop down to 750. There doesn't seem to be a pattern, it just randomly gets super high and super low. I like it to be sitting at about 1000 in park and around 650 in drive. It's a 305 TPI and I'm not very knowledgeable on engines, just the basics. Any help would be awesome.

Has anyone removed, cleaned, and lubricated the IAC lately? That would be a good startign point.

Re: Idle is all over the place

i had a problem like that on my carb 305 camaro. I know they are completly different set ups (carb to tpi). But on my camaro i had a few vaccum hoses that were crack or disconnected. Once i replaced them the idle was steady. This is something you might want to check out
