to buy or not to buy
to buy or not to buy
Hey guys,
Never owned a Firebird before but an interesting situation has fallen in my lap. A guy I work with has a 92 Firebird thats been sitting under an aluminum carport for about 3 years .....I asked him if he'd be interested in selling it and he said yes. Body is in great shape, 1 small ding on a door but otherwise in perfect condition. All of the electronics work, lights , flip up headlights , tailgate, blah blah blah. Now...I took a fresh battery over the other day and turned it over and it seemed like there was plenty of compression, but it just didnt want to start, sputtered a few times. I can only assume the fuel is crap by now and the plugs are rotted and fuel injectors clogged. Just by a guess, i think that would cost about 700 to fix. I am almost sure I can get the car for 500, should i buy it or not without having the engine fire?

Is it TPI? Any more details on the car? Trans Am? Formula? Base Model? I would think you can get it fixed for cheaper than that.
Re: to buy or not to buy
I beleive its a Formula but not sure...I know its a 305 with a carburetor looking thing, under an old school air filter. Its all power, t-tops, beige cloth interior, its reddish burgundy with the gold rims....I dont know how to post pics here, but if figure it out i can post about 15.....any other ideas on getting it started?

So it has a carb? Just put some starting fluid in it. Check the plugs and check for compression. Sounds like the carb is gummed up. Also does the bay looked hacked up? Could be a timing issue. Theres a reason its been sitting up. Look at the timing belt and ect. For $500 take it. The body is morth more than that if its not rusted.

It's a TBI car. Tow it home, pour some fuel in the throttle body and watch it crank right up. Then change the fluids and filters and drive it.
I wouldn't try to drive it home on that ancient gas and useless oil. It's been sitting too long.
Car looks to be worth more than you are having to give so you have some room to spend some money.
