cam selection?

Ok Ive come to the conclusion that I'm going to take my vortec heads off and get them worked on, well just screw in studs and springs that will accomidate up to a 600 lift. My question is, I'm running a stock 99 vortec shortblock and will be running shorties, 2.5 inch exhaust, a weiand stealth high rise vortec intake and a holley 750 vacuum secondaries carb, and billet hei dis, what cam should I go with to make the most power that I can out of this combination? be it roller or flat tappet or solid? its factory roller so should I go with a roller cam like the xe cams or go solid to get the most out of it? the heads will have the work necessary to run the cam of choice. I was thinking of doing mild port work and maybe a slight mill of the heads, but I'd like to get your opinions. I know I have asked a similar question but that was with no work on the valve train. I'd like to get 300-320 to the wheels even though I know i'm asking a lot.

Re: cam selection?

Basically you need to find a cam that matches the rpm range where you intake and heads make the most power. Go roller for more streetability or solid for more rpm capability and performance. XE282HR perhaps?

Make your homework. You can also download camquest 6 at compcams.com

I appreciate the help. My heads are 906 vortecs and stock and the intakes powerband is 1500-6700 but i dont plan on going past 6k. I was told from a friend I know that he thinks I should run a small solid lift cam, he says its a .447 lift with a 290/298 duration and a 108 lsa. what do you think or should I rather stay roller and run the XE282HR?
