Replacing starter help please!

hey my friend was trying to put in my new starter for me and had got all the wires undone and got the two mounting bolts off, but we cant get the starter pulled out cause everyway he turns it the solenoid gets caught on the brackets and the exaust is in the way. does anyone know where i can get some instructions?

Re: Replacing starter help please!

You might have to loosen or lower the y-pipe.

I didn't loosen the y pipe. I just twisted and turned till it came out. Don't remember exactly which way I did. But you can fight it out.

The problem is depending on how close your exact system is together you may be able to get the starter out by twisting it, but trust me it will be just as much of a pain if not more of a pain to put it back on. Personally i would just lower the y pipe its four bolts.

I did mine and there was no way for it to come out without removing the solenoid first.

An option is to use the LT1 starter. It is smaller in diameter and lighter, too. It doesn't help you getting the old one out, but as mentioned earlier, you can try taking the solenoid off.

Re: Replacing starter help please!

Yeah def go with an LT1 starter. They're like $170 with a core, $200 new... but I got a junkyard LT1 starter off ebay for $30 and it's kickin just fine. If it breaks I can just go turn it in and not lose any money on it. Try to do something like that if you can wait. It's so much nicer to handle and cuts a good bit of weight.

That is exactly what I did. $20 from the JY. Grab the bolts, too. One is long and one is short.
