MSD Street Fires any good?

Ok, so this may make me sound pretty dumb, but I do have some questions about plug wires lol.

So, after I installed hooker 2055s on my 86 iroc, I noticed a missfire. Sure enough, I burned through a plug wire. Out of money, I bought the cheapest set I could and installed them. Then I burned another! My car's wire holders are shot, btw. So, I bought another set, re configured the wires a bit, and replaced the buned one. After fooling with them, burning another, and buying some of those wire protectors, it worked out.

Now, after 8k miles, I think it's time to retire the $20 set (wish I could have sooner). I was thinking street fires and some valve cover wire looms for the passenger side (where the issue is). My plugs are as old as the wires, theyre accel header plugs. Are street fires any good? Are my present wires hindering my cars performance? What do you guys think? I'd go for the top of the line 8.5mm spiral cores, but I can't afford them, and I don't know when I will be able to.

Re: MSD Street Fires any good?

I am using them, no issues
wires for the most part offer negligible performance or virtually un-measurable

Ok thanks! I was just curious. Maybe I'll hold off for a while.

Just out of curiosity, would a kit that offers a 50K volt coil and ignition module, along with different advance weights make any difference?

Changing your advance curve, yes. Changing your coil and module, no.

Re: MSD Street Fires any good?

So what would be the benefit of changing the advance curve through the weights? Are there any disadvantages i.e. fuel octane or something? I probably should search on this one, my bad.

Well first you need to check if your distributor even has weights and springs. If it's a 305 TPI, then it doesn't.
