Smog pump delete/belt route
Ive scowered high and low for answers on this.. What i thought would have worked matches whats posted here as well..
https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine
Ive looked at both diagrams stock-bypass all am, and to me its just clear as day youll be spinning the waterpump backwards using the bypass route and its not right even though the belts seated and looks right,.
the factory belt setup has the waterpump spining clockwise with the crank.. bypass will spin it counter,

Re: Smog pump delete/belt route
The direction of the pump (or any other component with a flat belt) is determined by which side of the belt is driving it. The ones in the article still have the water pump driven by the back side of the belt so they are turning in the same direction as they did originally.

Re: Smog pump delete/belt route
driven by the back side still yes.. but in the wrong direction.. you can back hand or front hand the pulley but its a matter of which direction the pull is coming from.. factory pulls from the right side.. re-route from the left..
with the reroute.. crank spins clockwise and will be pulling the belt.. it has no choice but to spin the waterpump pulley counter clockwise.. backwards.. ???
it would help if the factory belt front veiw was side by side with all these re route pics..
unless someone can explain how the pics shown are possibly spinning the water pump clockwise.. ??????.....
Hell if there is no rain here tomm, hopefully i should ready to crank it over atleast,, ill mark the pulley.. if it spins clockwise.... lol.. ill beleive the sky is green,, I just dont want to risk any possible overheating breaking a new motor in.. a pricy one at that, 350/4bolt main, scat rods, KB flat tops, edelbrock allum heads, Comp XFI 280 cam, tpis Intake runners, etc..

Re: Smog pump delete/belt route
Forget about which way the crank is spinning or which way the belt is coming from or going to. It doesnt matter. All that matters is the back or the front of the belt. The crank pulley is always in contact with the ribbed side of the belt. Call that forward rotation. The back side of the belt is reverse rotation. The back side of the belt is in contact with the water pump both from the factory and in that article, so its rotating in reverse just like it did when GM sold it new.
One of those pictures is of my car. Its been that way since 1994. Its fine because the water pump is spinning in the direction its supposed to.
