Spark plugs

My 86 Iroc hasn"t had new plugs in over 6 years ( From the owner before me ) I'm a little nervous on just slapping a rachet on them since they look extrememly rusty. Any " tricks of the trade " to getting them out w/o snapping them??? Thank you

Re: Spark plugs

wd40 or penetrating oil, let them soak. the worst that could happen is you knock the porcelain off or round off the hex part but that's not likely with the right socket.

Re: Spark plugs

well if you have stock manifolds, then follow the advice from the previous post... if you have headers, perhaps use a small ratchet with an adapter for the spark plug socket... oh and if you have headers, the passenger side is easier from the bottom, also note that if you do change the spark plugs on the passenger side from the bottom, it is a good idea to disconnect the negative battery terminal...

Re: Spark plugs

As mentioned above, use some sort of penetrating oil on them and let it sit overnight. Personally I'm a huge fan of PB Blaster ...the stuff works wonders.

Re: Spark plugs

Tighten them just a little. Cracks em loose believe it or not. But I mean very little, just enough to feel it. Then turn them out. Put some anti seize paste on the new ones.
