I own a 91 RS with 16,000 miles 305 TBI. When i drove it last fall it started great i drove it for two miles and it just stopped. The gas i had in it was over a year old. I drained the gas and changed the fuel filter. I can hear the fuel pump motor when i turn the key. When i try to start it it sounds like it wants to start but just dies. I tried to put gas in the bowl of the tb but that didn;t help. is this a fuel system problem or could this be an ign. module problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Whats steps should I follow to find the problem.

Verify that you have spark first. Remove the fuel pump relay, or fuel pump fuse so that you are not getting any fuel to the engine. Take one of the spark plugs out. I usually find it easiest to take the front plug on the driver side. Place the plug in the wire and touch the metal side of the spark plug to the block. Have somebody turn the engine over while you are looking for spark at the electrode. Spark should be nice and blue. Perform this test with the battery fully charged. This should tell you if it is an ignition problem. If you have no spark then you have an ignition problem that you have to troubleshoot. It may not necessarily be a module. Could be a bad coil or problems with pickup coils in the distributor.
